This is the best (by far!) of the five 1883/2 shield nickel varieties. The underlying 2 is far more visible on this variety than any of the others. This variety is also quite rare in relation to the other 1883/2 varieties, and according to my records has only appeared at auction six times in the last ten years.

Cross-references for the Cherrypicker's Guide FS-013 are Fletcher 1883 F-08, Breen 2524, and SNV 1883 S1-5001. The 1883/2 shield nickel is also a Red Book variety, and fills a hole in Dansco shield nickel books.

The coin is a properly graded AU-55 by NGC, and registry ready since the variety is noted on the slab. Prices on the more common FS-013.1 1883/2 have been going crazy recently, and the FS-013 should fetch substantially more.
