Description
This auction is for an 1883/2 shield nickel
as shown in the pictures below. I believe this is an
early die stage of the FS5c-013.1 variety, before the die break through
the bell became evident. The
upstroke of the "2" can be seen above the bottom
curve of the "3" and the tail of the "2" can be seen inside the center
of the bottom curve of the "3", as well. A faint outline of the "2" can
also be seen, outside the the "3", in the close-ups below. I have read
that this early die stage is one of the more rare of the varieties to
find. The coin grades fine or very fine. I am starting low
so you can decide.
